Springtime in Latvia

Last Easter in Latvia, Priority Associates (Agape Europe’s ministry to professionals)  held an outreach called Celebration of Spring. Since winters are long and cold in Latvia, everybody looks forward to spring. Staff members Fran Daniel and Aija Vancane showed a clip from The Chronicles of Narnia where winter melts away, and talked about how spring symbolizes hope. And the greatest hope, of course, is in Jesus Christ.

One of the women who attended, a Chinese professor at the University of Latvia, had been attending an English-language Bible study, but did not understand much due to the language barrier. She had heard Bible stories growing up, and though she thought they were just stories, she wanted to know more. Fran began meeting her individually, and they studied the Gospel of John. By Chapter 3, this Chinese professor clearly understood the gospel, so Fran went through the booklet Connecting With God. The professor surrendered her life to Christ, and continues to meet with Fran in order grow spiritually, and to learn how to be in influence for Christ when she returns to her own country.

Another woman who attended the outreach, Liga Kleina, was a childhood friend of Aija's, and she, too, trusted Christ. This fall Liga plans to join a Bible study that Aija is leading.
