Ministries in Estonia
University Ministry - Working at universities in Tartu, this ministry helps students discover and follow Jesus. God has given us some incredible open doors: together with another ministry, we are able to organize the entire freshman orientation at Tartu University. We are also reaching out with effective study skills seminars, focus groups, and much more. Our desire is to run to the students who would never think of stepping foot in a church. We want to give students an opportunity to interact with Christianity in non-threatening situations, to investigate the claims of Christ, and to see God at work in the lives of Christians.
High School Ministry - Located in Tartu, this year the goal of our high school ministry is to expand into each one of the city's 10 high schools. We are so encouraged to see how God is bringing this vision to a reality through our "Life Skills" series. We invited students from each of the high schools to a series that discusses the issues of stress, relationships, and important life questions. God graciously brought 60-70 people to each of these events. We are thrilled to follow-up with these students and help them investigate Christ & how He can relate to their everyday life.
The Jesus Film Project may be the largest evangelistic outreach in the history of Estonia. This project works with local Estonian churches to offer each of Estonia's 400,000 homes a gift of the story of Jesus on either audio or video cassette. This project is expected last over the next 7 years.
Family Life - Currently 7 Home Builder Bible study groups are meeting in Estonia. In May of 2003 we sponsored two Family Life conferences – one in Tallinn and one in Tartu. We also hosted a speakers training for Family Life volunteers. Godly couples are being trained in how to reach out to couples & families around them & help them see how God can radically impact their marriages & families. We plan to continue to expand Home Builder studies throughout Estonia and sponsor church-based seminars in the months ahead.
Military ministry - The purpose of the Military ministry is to take the Gospel to the military personnel and soldiers in cooperation with the chaplains who we wish to support in their work. The negotiations to start the ministry in the Estonian Defence Forces started in spring 2004.
During the first couple of years we'll be concentrating on working side-by-side with the Defence College in Tartu. We are in a process of planning the Life-Skills course and in the future we wish to start inviting them to the Alpha course. We also wish to invite the cadets to student dinners and discussion nights and meet with them personally, one-on-one.
